THE NORWEGIANS BACK AGAIN

This was the third year that a group of Norwegian tourists (mostly older people), visited Fynbos. We fed them bobotie, braai and malva pud, chatted with them about South Africa and the farm and took them for a walk up the mountain.  They seemed to have a wonderful time and before they left they sang Sarie Marais to us (after copious wine drinking) and we were given gifts.  We are delighted that the tour company has booked again for next year.

Once again our group had a wonderful time at Fynbos. Delicious food and wine and atmosphere and information. And the walk up the mountain was greatly enjoyed.

Die wyn manne van Malmesbury

Last harvest a group of Malmesbury men ditched their respectable clothes for the old and the stained in order to get down and dirty making their own wine. They arrived at Fynbos with picked grapes which were then crushed, de-stemmed and pressed in the Dragonridge cellar. The juice was then transported to one of their homes where it was put to tank and barrel. A year later, with numerous tastings and additions of this and that, the wine was ready to drink. Here they are from start to finish, and as you can see they so enjoyed themselves that they plan to repeat the process this harvest.

To you, Dianne and Johan a very big Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

You'll made our stay most pleasurable, comfortable and stress-free. You thought of everything for this to be possible. Especially the coffee (forgot mine at home).

The girls said to convey to you'll their thanks as this was definitely not their last outing to Fynbos Estate. They especially loved the swimming from morning till late and eating their meals outside with a most stunning view and sleeping with mattresses down on the floor.
I have previously been out with other groups where we paid an arm and a leg and it wasn't quite as perfectly set up the way you did for me and my group. Your place is absolutely beautiful peaceful and so safe. My main concern was the safety of the girls but that concern was put to rest when I got there.
My sincerest gratitude to all of you.
Stay Blessed

A perfect party at the perfect setting. We just loved staying over in this huge farm house which brought back fond childhood memories, also allowed us ample opportunity to share some time with family and friends before and after the party. Waking up, having coffee on the stoep was just awesome. Most people could stay over and we didn’t have to worry about people driving home or run into trouble with the law. Definitely a very memorable party.

Volunteers late summer and autumn 2016

Thanks go to the final of the season’s volunteers.   We crowned Emma from the US, `label queen’, after she spent days and days writing and then stamping wine names onto labels. She also painted various signs and worked weddings not to mention sharing anti-Trump tirades.

Caro from Hamburg worked weddings and cooked and helped wherever she could. Lucky lass went on to have a fantastic trip north which included working at an elephant sanctuary.

And here for two months between school and his studies was Jonas from Germany.  His family own a large distillery and he came to get experience in wine. Jonas was very helpful in the winery, and labelled his fair share of wine. He also became renowned for glass polishing before weddings.

And then just an additional note we had a lovely visit from Sven and Geri, once volunteers now friends. They are hoping to return to Cape Town to spend much more extended time and although they would be based in Cape Town, we know we will see lots of them on the farm.

Caro (Hamburg)
My two weeks on Fynbos Estate were a refreshing time. I stopped here between my travels around the South African coast. Right from the start I felt like being part of the farm, part of the family and fully embedded in the farm dynamics. I worked with lovely staff and enjoyed being with all the lovely animals. I spent time in the wine cellar helping to clean old bottles and making room for the new harvest. Besides, I did some wine labelling, I renovated the sign for the restaurant and cooked with Johan in the kitchen. On the wedding weekend I was part of the helping staff. I really enjoyed the nature in that rural place and that I could work with my hands.
The farm is situated in awesome landscape, surrounded by a mountain range. On my days off I did some hiking enjoying the beautiful view over the valley and over several vineyards. Thanks to the lovely place and the lovely people. Thank you for having me!

Emma (USA)
Hey guys you know that you guys are all amazing and the farm is amazing and I don’t want to leave, and will be back for sure

Jonas (Westawald)

It was a very good experience for me. Thank you.

RIAAN’s 40th  (In the Old Cellar)

Fynbos se "The Old Celler’ was die perfekte plek vir die partytjie. Ons kon heerlik onder die bome en sambrele kuier en peusel voor ons aangesit het vir 'n vroeë aandete sonder om ons oor die kinders te bekommer, want hulle kon na hartelus baljaar. Die fasiliteite was uitstekend en het bygedra tot 'n baie genotvolle partytjie.
Kind regards

THE VOLKMAN FAMILY REUNION

Comments

Fynbos Estate … the perfect location for a family reunion.
Our family likes to take time out from the bustle of life to celebrate and bond amongst each other. To do this we try to get away from the city and find a location that allows us to cook meals and enjoy large lazy family meals.  So this year we planned a get-together during the middle weeks of August. Our eldest grandson and his fiancée, currently staying in Canada, decided to plan their wedding to coincide with the family gathering.
Our youngest son, who also lives in Canada, found Fynbos Estate as a possible venue for the family get-away, via the internet. We visited the farm in May and immediately knew that this was a very suitable location where all 30 of us could be accommodated comfortably.
During the weekend 14.-17 August we, our six children with their spouses, 14 grandchildren and two partners spent a memorable weekend at Fybnbos. We enjoyed the spaciousness of the accommodation in the farm house and three cottages as well as the welcoming, friendly and helpful attitude of the owners and staff. The opportunity to walk, cycle and drive up the valley and to the top of the Paardeberg is a wonderful bonus.
A heartfelt thank you to the owners, Mr and Mrs Simons, and Gail for accommodating our various extra requests. Fynbos would be first on our list should we want to arrange a similar occasion.
The Volkmanns

It was a fantastic venue and perfect for our family -  beautiful, tranquil and away from modern life. We enjoyed the beautiful surroundings by cycling and walking.
Hope we will be back sooner than later
Kind regards
