Another fantastic review for Dragonridge

Dragonridge has been fortunate to receive some excellent reviews recently by those in the know and this one was no different. Peter of Cape Wine Lovers Society visited for a tasting and once again Dragonridge was well received. To read the full article visit their blog

The blog is well worth keeping an eye on for reviews of wines in the Western Cape

DRAGONRIDGE GOES TO THE TOP AT SPAR WINE SHOW

With a big top theme, white tent and striped red décor, this was certainly a  circus.  A little corny ` Welcome to Winedereland’ and `Life’s a Cabernet’ but then that’s what a big circus is all about.
perhaps

Dragonridge was one of 65 exhibitors most of whom offered wine from all regions of the  western cape.  Throughout the three days there were lectures and blind tastings, people dressed up in strange costumes, photo booths and general bonhomie.

We were warned that the object of the exercise was not so much selling  wine (though we did some of that), but about networking and making contacts. People were excited about our story which is very different from that of the bigger wineries.

And they were much interested in the fact that our wines are natural, with no sulphurs to speak of and therefore hangover free.  We made quite a few valuable contacts and many people were also very interested  in Fynbos Estate – for accommodation, workshops, celebrations and for our periodic wine and food feasts.  Most gratifying though was the look on people’s faces when they tasted our wines. Aaah! they said. This is good.

There were three days of wine-tasting and we are very grateful to our helpers over the period,  Peter, Geraldene and Sven and Leena.

Would we do it again?  Well there was talk of a TOPS boutique wine show in the future and that would certainly be of more interest as we would be alongside the smaller more alternative wineries.

Fantastic success for the Fantasmogorical Fynbos Summer Feast.

The combination of a cellar tasting then a feast of goodies to eat and drink shared by friendly happy people was a winner.

Just some of the comments sent to us

Thanks to all the Fynbos crew for the fine meal  and superb ambience. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.  Trevor and Teresa

Swartland Independent Producers Heritage Festival 2017

Swartland Independent Producers took over the West Coast town of Paternoster to host what was by all accounts a fantastic weekend of wine, food, tastings and a generally good time.

Dragonridge Wines were extremely well received both at the dinner and by tasters and fellow winemakers.

A MEDIA DAY FOR DRAGONRIDGE

With the help of marketer Linda Christensen and her company JIGSAW we hosted a media day for Dragonridge

A cellar tasting was followed by a paired food and wine tasting.  We also did a wine and information drop to numerous bloggers and magazine wine writers who could not attend the day. It was all a great success with numerous good write-ups that followed.

Harvest 2017 Report

Harvest has come to a close and we can all breathe a bit before the March weddings arrive. All in all considering the drought this year and last, it was a good harvest. The quantities were higher than we expected and the quality was good.
Once again we had Andy our associate wine maker here for three weeks to run the harvest, which he did with his usual skill, humour, liveliness and thank heavens, a sense of order. And with him this time came the other half of the team, Becky his wife who added her hard work, her forthrightness and her delightful laugh to the mix. Together Andy and Johan made all the big decisions and the team of contracted pickers, wonderful overseas volunteers and our staff made it all possible. Special mention goes to Charles and Doubt members of our staff who Andy has been training and who look after the wine throughout the year. They did a wonderful job last year and are as keen as ever for the year to come.

Thanks to you all

Die wyn manne van Malmesbury

Last harvest a group of Malmesbury men ditched their respectable clothes for the old and the stained in order to get down and dirty making their own wine. They arrived at Fynbos with picked grapes which were then crushed, de-stemmed and pressed in the Dragonridge cellar. The juice was then transported to one of their homes where it was put to tank and barrel. A year later, with numerous tastings and additions of this and that, the wine was ready to drink. Here they are from start to finish, and as you can see they so enjoyed themselves that they plan to repeat the process this harvest.

DRAGONRIDGE GOES TO JOHANNESBURG

Photos courtesy of Swartland Independent Producers

Two  tasting events , one organised by SIP (Swartland Independent Producers)  and another at the FLAMINGO ROOM,  brought us and our wines up country to the big city.  From  feedback we can see that our natural  boutique wines are very attractive to people and noticed how taken they were not only with the low sulphur of our wines (no headaches) but also with the idea that we make `wines of the year’.  We now have an agent, Lucy Douglas, who will be handling marketing and sales for us in the Gauteng area. If you are interested and live up country do make contact with her  at dragonridgejhb@gmail.com.
