ALEC ROWES 80th

We recently hosted an intimate event to celebrate the 8 decades of an extraordinary man. Alec Rowe, one time nuclear engineer at MIT, designer of amongst other things, cryogenic tanks and a soundless rock drill that has transformed the lives of thousands upon thousands of  underground miners. 

But what became clear from all the speeches, is that it is not just in the area of invention and general brilliance that this man has excelled, he has brought pleasure and goodwill to the lives of very many people around him - family and friends and employees. This is a special man worthy of salute.

Celebration season comes to a close

Season 2016/2017 has drawn to a close. A huge thank you must be said to the staff who tirelessly work behind the scenes with a smile. 

 Lizzie, Trudi and Nicol who are always ready to jump in no matter what.

Our ladies in blue, Precious, Priscilla, Virginia and Tracy(who is desperately missed).

Craig and Max behind the bar and Charlie and Doubt who can explain the intricacies of wine making to a fault.

Zelda who runs the pavilion with military precision.

Lisa who is slowly mastering the art of quiche making.

And finally Gail, the glue that holds it all together.

Thank you to each and every one of you.

De Perdestal went into celebration mode with a Christmas Day lunch, a Funky Fynbos Boxing Day Feast, and various tastings and such. Much fun was had.

We had about 3-4 months to plan our special day, we had already travelled overseas to meet Joseph's family and they all agreed to come to Cape Town for the ceremony. We had planned a semi traditional wedding but knew it would probably be a lot different to the many weddings we had witnessed.

Luckily for us, close friends of ours had gotten married at Fynbos Estate a few months before us so we already had a venue in mind, we did enough research regarding other venues but at the end we had just fallen in love with Fynbos Estate and all its beauty.

My flower arrangements and bouquet were a combination of Fynbos and other fresh flowers and it worked so well with our surroundings that we really didn't need to have much decor at all, the garden was filled with beautiful trees and flowers from one corner to another, we were really fortunate to have found such a special place.

We had agreed on a short 30 minute ceremony, which was so much more than what we had expected. I can’t say that I remember every second of the day, there was just too much excitement and happiness and for us, that was exactly what we were looking for on our wedding day.

The evening was filled with fine wine and great food, speeches from friends and family, dancing, tears of joy and so many smiles.

We look forward to many more outings to Fynbos Estate and all the amazing people we had met that put all their love and energy into making it what it is today.

Fynbos Estate really has our hearts.

We cannot thank you enough for making our wedding the most spectacular event of my life. Fabian and I had a fantastic time and everything went off smoothly, much thanks to the help of Gail and her team.

We felt extremely blessed to start our union in such a sacred space and we will definitely never forget this for the rest of our lives.

Other than that, I still cannot thank you enough for making everything so easy, so effortless and beautiful.

You guys are an amazing group of people and we hope to visit sometime soon.

We look back on our big day with an automatic smile, tears of joy and a jumping heart. And Fynbos Estate and all its lovely people has a very big part in it.

When we started planning our wedding from Amsterdam, Tim being Dutch, we knew from the start we wanted to have our wedding in the Western Cape. I grew up in Piketberg and we not only wanted to surround ourselves with this on our wedding, but we wanted to share the breath taking surroundings of the Swartland with all our loved ones, especially those coming from abroad. And yes, they were completely blown away. 

The weekend of the wedding was way more than we hoped for. We couldn't have asked for better assistance from you and your team in helping us with the arrangements of the wedding. We thought it was going to be a challenge arranging it from abroad, but the Fynbos team made it a breeze. You were op top of everything and even reminded of things we would have forgotten about completely.

We had a very specific look, feel and atmosphere in mind for our wedding weekend and Fynbos gave us exactly that. We are both very down to earth, relaxed and happy-go-lucky and that is how our friends and family knows us. Fynbos gave us the opportunity to represent that perfectly.  It is a wonderful intimate and amazingly beautiful venue. The atmosphere was so relaxed and peaceful and homey. And with the pretty surroundings, animals and old cape Dutch house, we didn’t have to do much with decorations. Not to mention the unending spots for amazing photographs. The photographer, along with us didn’t know where to start and where to stop.

Our families, which are all very close, could spend the weekend together in the big farmhouse, which would also be where I would get read, as well exit from for the ceremony. And wow, was that small little spot under the tree, with the birds singing not just magical for a wedding celebration?!!?

The pre-drinks in the garden was like a garden party on its own, and no one had the feeling that they were waiting for a reception. The intimacy of the venue just made it feel like one big celebration, moving from one end to the other end.

We cannot stop looking at the photographs, without going...wow and after 2 months, our loved ones are still talking about it. Perfection.

Thank you ever so much not only for your help and warmth, but for preserving such a beautiful place.

"Our wedding at Fynbos was everything we'd dreamt of and more - which is a pretty good outcome considering we'd never even been to the venue when we booked it! You see it's the sort of place, run by the sort of people that make you feel like you know it before you've even visited it or met them. Gail was tremendous in helping us plan our day and managing our expectations, and the rest of the staff received many compliments from our guests on how helpful and friendly they were. The most memorable moment for me was during my husband's (eeek!) speech at dusk, hearing the crickets in the background and my nephews playing on the lawn - it made me realise that Fynbos truly is a unique place where families can share life's precious moments together, and we're so incredibly grateful we got to celebrate one of ours there."

We absolutely loved our wedding at Fynbos Estate. The venue was perfect for the relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere we were looking for. Things ran perfectly on the day thanks to the amazing coordinator Gail who was an absolute godsend on the day and the weeks leading up to the wedding. The food and wine were excellent and we loved having our whole family stay on the farm, in beautiful accommodation, for the weekend of the wedding.

Stuart and I first fell in love with Fynbos Estate when we attended a friend’s wedding about two years before we walked down the aisle. The venue was everything we wanted, beautiful, inviting and everyone we dealt with was equally as lovely.

If we could, we would marry over and over again - just to have this beauty and just to see our friends fall in love with the venue and our wedding.

I am so glad that when I am 80, my memories marrying the love of my life will include Fynbos Estate.
