With an end to wedding
season and the onset of autumn rains, we have set to work on the farm.
In the vineyards we have been disking and we
preparing land for new vineyard planting. In the olive grove we have been weeding and planting, so that we now have
a total of 900 olive trees.
In the vegetable garden, Jacob’s hard work has
paid off and brought all sorts of delicious veggies to the table, and with the
arrival of Swiss WWOOFERS Sven and Gerry, we have done some concerted gardening in the sunny and still autumn
days.
On the building front,
with the move of the winery down to the old cellar, lots of new building has
been set in motion.
Firstly, we were able
to move our office from the pokey
little closet in the farmhouse, to the now vacated building next to the
cottage. This gives us a spacious work room with a beautiful view.
Secondly, the storage space
required by the new winery has prompted us to build the much discussed utilities facility behind the workshop,
for storage of all our tractors, implements and refuse.
And of course, apart
from making new spaces, we are also busy maintaining
current spaces, including mending fences, repairing roads and fixing roofs.
