PAINTING BY TERRI BROLL

There seems to be a lot of art buzzing about Fynbos at the moment. We have had the pleasure of a visit to the farm of our friends Terri Broll and her husband Mike Hickson. Part of the reason for the visit to the Cape, was for Terri to do a recce of the Irma Stern museum where she is to exhibit in September.

A long time psychotherapist, Terri has, since completing her master’s degree in Fine Art, devoted herself to painting and running art related workshops. She has exhibited nationally and has works in collections in South Africa and abroad. She is extremely skilled as a painter and uncompromising in what she paints remaining faithful only to her own process. This means that her paintings continually evolve and transform and often express disturbing aspects of the personal and the wider social unconscious. A friend once remarked that while Terri’s work may at times distress the viewer with a sense of pathos, or violence or fear, no one can resist looking again at them. They are also often humorous.

If you would like to discover more about Terri’s work, her website is http://www.terribroll.com/ and she can be contacted at terribroll@gmail.com. For Capetonians, watch out for her exhibition at the Irma Stern. Her website and this blog will keep you posted. Terri can be contacted at terribroll@gmail.com or on 083 477 55 9
