TWO BEAUTIFUL SUMMER WEDDINGS AND AN EXTENDED 70th

Robyn and Grant marry

This was a stylish wedding in soft colours with the couple returning from the UK for the event. They had not in fact seen the venue until a few days before the event.  The marriage ceremony was held in a church in Malmesbury and the reception here. Something unusual was that the couple imported craft beers, gins, tonics and whiskeys which were available at different points of the wedding. Many guests stayed the weekend enjoying lovely weather and leaving after breakfast on Sunday.

Sera and Dewalt marry

This was a warm-hearted, simple and natural wedding from beginning to end.  Sera wrote the following piece describing what they chose and why.

Dewald and I are immensely pleased with Fynbos Estate as a venue because of the sheer natural beauty of the gardens and valley. We chose to marry under a shady oak tree in a grove next to the old farmhouse, which looked onto a mountain and had a blossoming bougainvillea in the background. The weather played along nicely and our guests enjoyed canapés, flavoured waters and drinks on the lawns under the other old oak, with umbrellas and comfy chairs dotted around for a relaxed ambiance, before walking up to the pavilion which was where we enjoyed our feast, dancing and speeches. We decorated the pavilion simply in keeping with a theme of re-using, recycling, borrowing and as little consumerism as possible. We didn’t want the pomp to detract from our union but rather to have décor which in its beauty and simplicity mirrored the natural surroundings and reflected our ethos. We also invited kids to the wedding as the setting lends itself to them running around and exploring “secret” paths, and our hosts kindly popped the pool net on as an added protection against disaster, but could just have easily left it off for adults to swim later in the evening. Many of our guests stayed over and enjoyed the peace and quiet of Fynbos Estate’s tranquil setting the next morning before hitting the road. Our families slept in the huge Victorian farmhouse and we had a delectable breakfast the next morning on the stoep overlooking the garden, which was a wonderful start to a great adventure together. All in all a memorable and special day.

Carol Low celebrates her 70th with 5 days of love and laughter

We first met Carol on Buddhist retreat held here some years ago.   We were therefore delighted that she chose to have her 70th here with Cape Town friends and her family from the UK.  The celebration lasted 5 days over 3 phases.  First Carol with immediate family and  a friend chilled for a few days. Then a few more friends and family joined them for a Christmas meal. And finally on Boxing day, a much bigger crowd came for a birthday lunch.
For anyone perturbed about getting old (and who isn’t?), the celebration was an inspiration. Not a bunch of old people acting young, but a bunch of young people some of whom were in older bodies. It was a week full of love and laughter. Carol now uproots from Australia to live close to her daughter and family in the UK. We wish her well on the next stage of her journey.
