CELEBRATIONS; PARTIES AND WEDDINGS GALORE

These  late summer months have been ablaze with birthday parties and weddings. Here are some pics.

Pinnock Party

Romaney Pinnock, with the help of Gaelen, her brother, created a surprise party  for their parents, Don and Patch, in celebration of their wedding anniversary, and of Don’s birthday. With live music, much dancing, and good friendship, it was wonderfully joyous party.  Many guests stayed over Saturday night, and Sunday included a leisurely breakfast, swimming and chatting on the stoep.  The weekend left us all with smiles on our faces.

Melinda’s birthday lunch

When Melinda first  came to check out the venue, she fell in love with the  side garden under the oaks . It was just what she dreamed of, she said, and under her direction,  we added higgeldy piggeldy wooden chairs, and white table cloths, and she provided simple arrangements of roses.  She and friends  self catered the night before, and on the party day,  additional people arrived and tucked into a smorgasbord of Mediterranean  startes followed by an array of curries and sambals.   They finished with Yo’s Apple crumble. Wine and Champagne flowed, and  the  afternoon  was one of soft sunlight through trees, and mellow  conversataion between good friends.

Thank you so much for a perfect birthday weekend! The setting, the accommodation, the long table under the old Oaks (that I've wanted to emulate since I've seen it in movies like 'Antonia's line') & the perfect weather given to us on the day, your laid back relaxed style & lovely company we enjoyed very much, and then a special mention must go to the absolutely delicious food Johan & team made that had us salivating from Saturday afternoon already when the special spice mixes started to roast in the kitchen..... I'm also glad about the circle that closed around the Fiddlewoods history! I always find it to be such a special treat & privilege to experience a barrel or tank tasting with a winemaker (and I've really been spoiled during my days at KWV) - thanks very much to Johan, especially from those who experienced this for the first time & loved it. I am really looking forward to the blend he's going to make with that fantastic barrel of Mouvedre - I want some!

Josie’s bash

Josie and her husband Brett, hosted a whamdinger of a party to celebrate Josie’s 50th birthday. It  began on Friday evening with a  small group, expanded to 52 guests for lunch  in the garden, and then for the evening, a magical party in the pavilion .  All  52 guests stayed over (20 or so were children who slept on mattresses in the barn), so the farm was buzzing. Josie’s party also coincided with Freedom Day which Josie and friends  explicitly  celebrated both in the decor and  the speeches.  For us it was great to hear so much positive expression about South Africa. Overall  the weekend left everyone on a high.

THANK YOU Diana and Mr Crème brulee, it  was a fantastic weekend.  We appreciate it all.   Stunning food, all your hard work. We are still glowing from it.
Josie

Aretha and Cameron

Aretha and Cameron, after a short ritual in the garden, partied happily in the Pavilion to a live band. The decor was lovely, with Cameron and his mom doing the flowers, and Aretha and friends making the decorations. The farm was packed for the Saturday night too, with everyone enjoying  a laid back breakfast on Sunday. Unfortunately photographs from the party have not reached us in time for this post, which means we can only put up the ones we have.

We really enjoyed our wedding which was very beautiful and we had a wonderful time. The food, wine and setting were perfect. Exactly what we both wanted for our wedding day we have had nothing but glowing compliments from all of our family and friends. Now we just need to find further reasons to have parties out here. Thank you again for all you hard work and for being so accommodating of our needs. We both really apreciate it.

Ashleigh and Liam

Ashleigh and Liam’s wedding was our first experience of a wedding where we provided only the venue and drinks. The weather was beautiful and the couple married in  the garden, and held their reception in an atmosphere of shimmering elegance in the pavilion. Brenda who coordinated wove  her magic with soft tones and  gorgeous  flowers in pastel colours. Lawrence of Cherry on Top provided delicious food.  After hours of partying, many guests stayed on the farm, eating a light breakfast together the next day, before leaving. Ashleigh and Liam made their way home to Zambia where they will be living.

Angie and Eben

This small wedding began with vows in the Chapel and followed with a seated lunch under the oaks. Angie did an amazing job of making all the decorations and doing the flowers, and the heartfulness  and delightful humour of the wedding, spilled over onto all of us. It was a beautiful occassion.

Elanor and Samuel

This was another small wedding of family and close friends. The vows were taken under the trees  followed by photographs in the garden, and a lunch in the pavilion.  We very much enjoyed the preparation of  the bride by the bridesmaids (see pic) and Elanors daughter looked a treat. Sadly Elanor’s mom was very ill and this tinged the wedding with  some sadness.

Thank you for doing the wedding. Everything was beautiful and the food and atmosphere lovely.
Elanor
