Last week Loni Drager, an accomplished artist living in Riebeek Kasteel, contacted us with a view to volunteering one day a week at Fynbos. She said she had grown up on a farm and wanted to be involved in farm life again. Apart from helping out with whatever is on the go (today for example making wine), Loni will focus on environmental and art related tasks - of which Fynbos has many waiting to be tackled. Aside from her artistic career, Loni has worked as an environmental consultant and a landscape gardener.
Loni's wood sculptures are extremely beautiful and based in nature - as can be seen from the pictures above. She says of her work (and her interest in us)
I try to make my art communicate the stillness found in nature. Places like Fynbos Estate give city/town people a place to retreat to, a place of reflection, where one can reconnect with the fundamental forces of nature that are the foundation of all our activity in the world. In the same way I hope my work reminds people of those quiet places.
Hopefully her Fynbos days will bring her fun and inspiration. From our side, we are delighted to benefit from her knowledge, skill and creative spirit.
